Support the WCIA
The Welsh Centre for International Affairs exists to serve the people of Wales. Input from local authorities, voluntary organisations, companies and individuals is invaluable to our work, whether this in terms of financial support, professional expertise or individual time and commitment.
The past year has been a positive one for the Centre with the establishment of several new projects and resources to promote our work in Wales. Although a relatively small body, we believe that our work with young people, community and professional groups has a lasting impact. This sentiment was echoed recently in the House of Commons by Hywel Francis, MP for Aberavon, who said: “The Welsh Centre for International Affairs … has for decades played a vital role. Its quiet, educational voice of tolerance and reason needs to be listened to and valued in Wales and beyond. It deserves our full support and we should be proud of its work.”
Our activities range from campaigning for the rule of international law (for example on military action in Iraq) to responding to the international aspects of the work of the National Assembly for Wales. We have been active in discussions on international trade and disarmament and have hosted events to mark key observances in the UN calendar as well as Holocaust Memorial Day and Armistice Day. We also continue to provide a forum for discussion of international issues through public meetings and debates.
This work has been supported by local authorities, the WCIA Trust, the European Commission and other grant-making bodies. Our most valued means of support, however, continues to be our members; without whom our ability to fulfil our mandate of promoting peace and international understanding amongst the people of Wales would be severely curtailed.
If you share the goals of the WCIA to bring a broader understanding of international issues to Wales and would like to become further involved in our work, please follow the links to learn more about membership and the opportunities available to become a volunteer.
