Wise and Foolish Dreamers Exhibition

Wise and Foolish Dreamers

The Centre’s links to the Welsh involvement in the Spanish Civil War go back to the 1980’s. Following liaison with the International Brigade veterans from Wales, a sum of money was presented to the Centre to manage, its purpose being to maintain links between young people in Wales and Spain. Since 1989, this small fund has carried out this purpose in a number of ways, including volunteer exchange projects, theatre productions, essay competitions and publications.

Wise and Foolish Dreamers is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and includes a touring exhibition, a DVD, and a new full colour publication.

Pupils from three schools helped design and produce the exhibition, book, music and images on the accompanying DVD. The pupils attended the project’s launch on 11 May 2007, which included contributions from Phil Cope, the Project coordinator, Lindsey Cuddy of HLF, and Dr Hywel Francis MP, an authority on Welsh involvement in the Civil War.

This exhibition, which consists of 6 large panels with custom built DVD player unit and bench, has thus far been on display at the Dylan Thomas Centre in Swansea, Ammanford Library and at the National Eisteddfod in Flintshire. It will be touring the country at the following venues:
