Legal Affairs Seminar: THE IRISH EU REFERENDUM – JUST SAY YES

5.30pm, Friday 11 December 2009

Speaker – Judge Frank Clarke, Chairman of the Referendum Commission in Ireland, that oversaw the recent vote on the Lisbon Treaty. 
He reflected on that experience, and also looked at how the Irish judiciary has more generally complied with European Community law since 1973.

Chairman – Andy Klom, Head of the European Commission’s Office in Wales.

SPEAKERS’ LINE-UP: A range of academics and practitioners assembled, representing extensive research and practical expertise in human rights issues at international and national levels.  They included: Professor Eibe Riedel, member of the ICESCR Committee; Professor Malcolm Evans of Bristol University; Professor Mads Andenas of the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights; Dr. Jochen von Bernstorff, Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law; Professor Luke Clements, Cardiff Law School; and Ms Julia Häusermann of Rights and Humanity.
