From September 2025, WCIA and Cytûn (Churches together in Wales) have worked with St David’s Cathedral Library & Archives to launch the first public display of this new exhibition, ‘Faith for a Warless World’, put together to mark the centenary of a remarkable world peace campaign that brought together the churches of Wales in the aftermath of World War One – and thought to be the first documented demonstration of ecumenical (interfaith) cooperation after the 1920 disestablishment of the church in Wales.
The exhibition, displayed in the vestry of St David’s Cathedral, includes the original, beautifully embossed ‘Churches Peace Memorial’ of 1925 (below) in an acrylic display case, alongside copies of the historic peace declaration contained within. Accompanying panels explain the wider story of the 1920s peace campaign, and its role in supporting US society to move – albeit gradually – from isolationism of the 1920s, to helping found the United Nations 2 decades later.
The exhibition is free to visit, within the standard opening hours of St David’s Cathedral. It is anticipated to remain in St David’s until New Year 2026.

St David’s Cathedral Archivist & Librarian Mari James, holds the 1925 Welsh Churches Peace Appeal alongside the memorial to Bishop John Owen, who 100 years ago instigated the campaign as Bishop of St David’s and President of [WCIA predecessor] the WLNU / Welsh League of Nations Union. His leadership was instrumental in the campaigns’ success both in Wales and America; he passed away the following year, in November 1926.
