The Cardiff-based international volunteering charity, UNA Exchange, is recruiting dynamic individuals to join our Board of Trustees with the drive and skills to take forward our vision of a globally responsible Wales.
Our core business comprises international exchanges to and from Wales, empowering individuals to take part in a variety of voluntary service projects that develop communities, protect the historic and natural environments and promote inter-cultural understanding. Aimed predominately at young people aged 18–30, we provide opportunities ranging from two-week residentials through to 12-month overseas placements. We also provide a programme of supported volunteering for young people furthest from the labour market and most at risk of social exclusion.
Having secured significant funding from Welsh Government and the European Commission for the next two years and with ambitious plans for development, this is a superb time to join the charity’s management committee.
Expressions of interest are warmly invited from individuals from all backgrounds. We are especially keen to recruit people with a selection of the following skills and experience:
- Youth work (practice and policy)
- Financial management
- Income generation and grant application
- Donor and alumni development
- Welsh language
- Public Affairs
New trustees will have opportunity to join one of the Board’s sub committees and will be invited to attend events as UNA Exchange ambassadors. Over time there will also be scope to take on one of the designated roles of Chair, Vice-Chair and Treasurer.
The Board meet at the Temple of Peace in Cardiff on a quarterly basis (typically on a Tuesday evening between 17:30 – 19:30) with intervening meetings of its sub committees. In addition, staff and trustees join together for an annual Strategy Day. First-time trustees are encouraged to apply: UNA Exchange is committed to the development of staff and trustees, providing a mentoring system and a budget for training.
For an informal chat about the work and governance of UNA Exchange, please contact the Director, Tara-Jane Sutcliffe: tarajanesutcliffe@unaexchange.org. All expressions of interest should be supplied to the same, addressed to the Chair of Trustees, Tracy Kearns.
To apply, please supply a CV and covering letter detailing your motivation to become a UNA Exchange trustee and what skills and experience you would bring to the role. We ask all applicants to consider how they would fit the time commitment around work and family life.
UNA Exchange was founded in 1973 and is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (registered charity no: 1158106). To find out more about the organisation, please visit our website: www.unaexchange.org.
Further information about what is required of a charity trustee is available from the Charity Commission in its publication ‘The essential trustee: what you need to know, what you need to do’.
Appointment will be on a rolling basis and expressions of interest should be supplied at the earliest opportunity.
