Peace Garden Working Party for ‘Temple Friends’
Led by WCIA Trustee Ceri Black, this date has been earmarked for Temple Friends and Trustees to join a ‘teambuiding’ day challenge to spruce up the National Garden of Peace, clean and improve the memorials within it, and where appropriate add new planting, flags and public information.
Tasks will be wide ranging and most quite practical, such as weeding, raking, planting, pruning, cleaning / fixing memorials, installing replacements, replacing flags, installing, varnishing / painting and securing benches and tables, developing improved public information, etc. We hope for this to become the first of a regular series of working bees, that we hope can engage many of the groups who have memorials in the peace garden to share and celebrate their peace heritage, and to explore other opportunities for collaboration.
Please register below so we have an idea of who will be coming. Please note, Temple Friends and volunteers / supporters in the widest sense are most welcome (such as memnbers from groups who have memorials in the Peace Garden) – but this is not intended as an activity open to ‘general public’ , and is unsuitable for student / children’s work experience.
Peace Garden Memorials Trail
This event will also offer the opportunity for trustees and supporters to trial the newly developed ‘Peace Garden Memorials Trail‘, enabling visitors to use their mobile phones / tablet devices to explore the garden, find 50+ memorials, and discover the stories behind them (along with digitised archives on each). This project is currently being undertaken by Student Placements.
