Over the first week of July, WCIA will be joining visitors from all over the world participating in one of Wales’ premier peace building, musical and cultural events – the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.
With a peace heritage of its own rooted in the aftermath of World War Two, the event was founded in 1947 to build peace and reconciliation across Europe after decades of conflict. The Denbighshire town hosted one of the first exchange visits from Luebeck, East Germany in 1949, and when the Obernkirchen Children’s Choir came to Wales in 1953, their Llangollen song ‘the Happy Wanderer’ topped the UK Charts in a remarkable demonstration of thew power of music for reconciliation. The Llangollen Eisteddfod today is a truly international cultural celebration attracting artists and audiences from as far afield as Africa, America and Australasia.
Over the first week of July 2023, alongside the musical events and activities, WCIA and partners are working with the Eisteddfod to deliver a Programme of Peace Events on the Maes.

- ‘Solidarity for Peace‘ Popup Exhibition by ESC International Youth Volunteers – Wednesday and Thursday, alongside events above.
