MockCOP 2019 Wrexham
Sign up your school for MockCOP so your Year 9-12 learners can experience a Model United Nations Climate Change Conference and have a chance to become Climate Champions. For the regional conferences, each school will be assigned a country to research, then each school will send a delegation of students to the conference representing that country. During the event, they will propose resolutions and amendments and negotiate their country’s position. They will also have an opportunity to plan action in their own schools and communities on climate change. This is a fantastic opportunity to deliver cross-curricular learning and develop ‘ethical informed citizens of Wales and the World’, while also supporting learners to make an impact on the crucial issue of climate change. Learners will:
- Develop knowledge of different nations and their perspectives
- Learn how international coorperation and the UN works
- Develop knowledge of global issues and how they are interlinked
- Build skills in speaking and listening, research, negotiation, conflict resolution and compromise
- Develop empathy and self-confidence
- Plan projects in their own schools and communities on climate change
All participants in a regional MockCOP will be given the opportunity to apply for a final overnight event in Cardiff in November 2019. This will include a MockCOP in the Senedd, as well as a fully funded overnight stay with an evening of inspiration to include workshops and talks – all attendees of this final event will have the opportunity to become Climate Champions.
Please note, participants are asked to bring a packed lunch to regional events.
MockCOP is a Size of Wales and Welsh Centre for International Affairs (WCIA) project funded by the ScottishPower Foundation. In order to deliver the project, participant data will be shared between the parnters and the funder. Please see each organisation’s website for more information about their Privacy Policies.
