The Welsh Women’s Peace Petition – History, Heritage and Hope

A professional learning opportunity for teachers to become acquainted with resources about the Welsh Women’s Peace Petition and how to use them in the classroom

One of the four purposes of the Welsh Curriculum is to develop ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world. One way to ensure this is an integral part of our pupils’ learning and support them to act for change is by sharing stories that inspire them.

During this free online INSET session led by staff from the Welsh Centre for International Affairs (WCIA) Global Learning Team and Academi Heddwch Cymru, we will share resources developed for primary and secondary schools on the astonishing history of the Welsh Women’s Peace Petition (1923 – 24) – a story of ‘ordinary’ women who were responsible for a petition that crossed the Atlantic with the objective of creating a war-free world.

One aim of these resources is to create opportunities for pupils to learn about and explore their ‘cynefin‘ by asking what their area was like in the 1920s, what motivated women to sign the petition, and then researching the signatures using the digital version of the petition on the National Library of Wales website.

Participants will have time in smaller groups to discuss how they can use and adapt the resources to their own context and develop cross-curricular learning.

We look forward to welcoming you on this course!

Deiseb Heddwch Menywod Cymru – Hanes, Treftadaeth, Gobaith

Cyfle dysgu proffesiynol i athrawon ddod yn gyfarwydd ag adnoddau am Ddeiseb Heddwch Menywod Cymru a sut i’w defnyddio yn yr ystafell ddosbarth

Un o bedwar diben Cwricwlwm Cymru yw datblygu dinasyddion egwyddorol, gwybodus yng Nghymru a’r byd. Un ffordd o wneud hyn yn rhan annatod o ddysgu ein disgyblion a’u cefnogi i weithredu dros newid yw trwy rannu storïau sydd yn eu hysbrydoli.

Yn ystod y sesiwn HMS rhad ac ar-lein hwn a arweinir gan staff o Dîm Addysg Byd-eang Canolfan Materioin Rhyngwladol Cymru (WCIA) ac Academi Heddwch Cymru, byddwn yn rhannu adnoddau a ddatblygwyd i ysgolion cynradd ac uwchradd ar hanes syfrdanol Deiseb Heddwch Menywod Cymru (1923 – 24) – hanes menywod ‘cyffredin’ fu’n gyfrifol am ddeiseb a groesodd Yr Iwerydd gyda’r amcan o greu byd di-ryfel.

Un amcan yr adnoddau hyn yw creu cyfleoedd i ddisgyblion ddysgu am ac archwilio eu ‘cynefin’ trwy holi sut oedd eu hardal yn y 1920au, beth symbylodd menywod i arwyddo’r ddeiseb, ac yna ymchwilio’r llofnodion gan ddefnyddio’r fersiwn digidol o’r ddeiseb ar wefan Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru.

Caiff cyfranogwyr amser mewn grwpiau llai i drafod sut medran nhw ddefnyddio ac addasu’r adnoddau i’w cyd-destun eu hunain a datblygu dysgu traws-gwricwlaidd.

Edrychwn ymlaen at eich croesawi ar y cwrs hwn!
