The Temple Friends group will be holding voluntary gatherings on a monthly basis to help maintain and spruce up Wales’ National Garden of Peace, and to enjoy some creative conversations around events, activities and ideas for involving local communities more with the Temple, and exploring present day peace issues of interest.

Gardening bee sessions – which will involve regular tidying, cleaning memorials and improving signage (and where appropriate add new planting, flags and public information) – will usually start from 3pm for approx 2 hours, followed by tea and cake from 5pm in the Hall of Nations (or Peace Garden picnics in lighter months!).

Creative Conversation – Building on the Women’s Peace Centenary

Join us for an open forum to share your creative ideas, as we develop future visions for the Temple of Peace & Health and for the Peace Garden. An opportunity for Temple Friends to input, explore and exchange inspiration on how the building and garden can inspire and involve more people.

Over the week preceding this Temple Friends meeting, an exhibition on the centenary of the Women’s Peace Petition will be on display through the building, celebrating the contributions of communities across Wales. This Temple Friends discussion will use the women’s centebnary as a starting point, to discuss how we might build on that into 2025.

Gardening Help

Tasks are wide ranging and mostly practical: weeding, raking, planting, pruning, cleaning / fixing memorials, installing replacements, replacing flags, installing, varnishing / painting and securing benches and tables, developing improved public information, etc. We are aiming to undertake working bees roughly monthly (slightly less over winter months), and hoping to involve groups who have memorials in the peace garden to share and celebrate their peace heritage, and to explore other opportunities for collaboration.

We’d be grateful if you could register via the link below so we have an idea of who will be coming. Temple Friends and volunteers / supporters in the widest sense are most welcome (such as members from groups who have memorials in the Peace Garden), and WCIA staff will be attending to support.

Peace Garden Memorials Trail

We would welcome supporters and trustees to help trial the newly developed ‘Peace Garden Memorials Trail‘, enabling visitors to use their mobile phones / tablet devices to explore the garden, find 50+ memorials, and discover the stories behind them (along with digitised archives on each).
