Online Model Railway Museum – Experimental Home Page and CMS Design
This page is an experimental design ‘sandbox’ using the WordPress CMS to test design, but not intended to link to the wider WCIA website. If you find yourself here by accident, please click here to go back to WCIA’s homepage (or via the navigation at top).
The collections will have several ‘layers’ of navigation page guiding users around the models:
- Homepage / Navigation Dashboard – this page
- Regions – see LMS example https://www.wcia.org.uk/lms-constituents/
- Companies – see LNWR example https://www.wcia.org.uk/collections_lnwr/
- Classses (sometimes divided by Designers where collections are very numerous) – see Claughton example https://www.wcia.org.uk/lnwr-claughton/
- Locomotive Profiles – initially individual locos wil be linked to on Flickr; but there could be scope for every collection item havuing its own page if there were sufficient volunteers / content creation input. These could be done as WordPress posts,
- Keyword Searches / ‘Curate your own display’: Using tags, these pages could curate filtered selections eg displaying locos by designer, livery / era modelled, wheel arrangements, names, make, preservation, withdrawal dates etc.
The WCIA navigation bar at top would be replaced by a newly customised MRM branding and dropdown menu, with:
