What practices inhibit the development of ethical citizens?

Children often come to school with strong opinions that they have developed from home

Parents can be resistant to the tackling of controversial issues in class

As adults, we haven’t been taught enough about how government works

Many students rely on only a small pool of sources (ie. Social media sources) to find evidence about their views

The curriculum is crowded and we don’t have a lot of time to tackle contemporary issues

Ethical citizenship can be tokenistic

Most young people are disengaged with politics

Terms like culture and society are so complex, it’s hard to pin them down in one or two lessons

Some groups believe that sustainability doesn’t apply to them

Some staff feel uncomfortable speaking about controversial issues in class
