Policy updates: January – March 2023


  • As members of Stop Climate Chaos Cymru, we’ve drafted a paper to highlight the importance of embedding global climate justice in Welsh policy
  • With partners in the international sector, we lobbied for changes to the Social Partnership and Procurement Bill to get global responsibility on the face of the legislation – we weren’t successful in getting amendments in (a tied vote) but did get commitments to work with the sector on the Statutory Guidance to ensure global responsibility is fully embedded
  • Met with the new Future Generations Commissioner to highlight the priorities in achieving a globally responsible Wales
  • Reflected on our experience drawing together a values statement for the Men’s World Cup in Qatar and recommended a broader approach that could be applied across the international strategy
  • Submitted successful requests to have a poster and workshop at the WISERD conference in July to explore global citizenship and global responsiblity
  • Joined UK-wide efforts to campaign against the Illegal Migration Bill and instead to focus on a sanctuary approach
  • Joined UK-wide efforts to campaign against the abolition of the Human Rights Act
  • Submitted a consultation response about the new GCSEs to qualifications Wales
  • Submitted a response to a request for evidence from the Children, Young People and Education Committee about their priorities
  • Supported Climate Cymru’s Warm this Winter and Nature Positive campaigns, asking for globally responsible elements to be included in the nature positive campaign
