WCIA’s ‘Archiveathon Challenge’ Summer 2022 – call for volunteers!
Can you volunteer a few hours of your time, to help document the library collections of Wales’ Temple of Peace & Health? Through volunteer ‘crowdsourcing’ participation, this series of workshops on Tuesday afternoons over August, will aim to complete the cataloguing and listing of the Temple Library’s books and materials by the end of Summer 2022, so that they can be explored and accessed by students, researchers and peace campaigners into the future. We’ll be finishing work started by Archiveathon volunteers over Spring 2022, supported by Aberystwyth GO Wales placement Clara Finkelstein – who we’re delighted to say, was awarded the ‘Young Peacemakers’ Heritage Award at July’s Llangollen International Eisteddfod, in recognition of her efforts.
As well as making a contribution to WCIA and to Wales’ Peace Heritage, volunteers will gain digitisation skills, work experience insight into heritage and digital media management, a certificate for their contribution, and a short tour of Wales’ beautiful Temple of Peace. Training and support will be provided through each session, and volunteers of all ages and interests are welcome. No specific digital skills are required, other than confidence with basic computer inputting. We would be grateful if participants could bring your own laptop if you have one; if not, you can request a WCIA laptop by submitting a request ticket from the event registration pages.
