We have two exciting new international projects on peacebuilding and we invite you to join us in making a difference. Conflicts and violence continue to affect communities across the globe, but we believe that change is possible through collaborative efforts and global action.
Who?
This project is being organised and run by our partner organisation, Volksbund – they are a German organisation which run international youth exchanges and workcamps around Peace, Democracy and Human Rights.
This project is designed to bring together a diverse group of participants from different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, to work together towards a common goal of building peace. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about creating positive change, who have experience or an interest in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, community development, human rights, or related fields, and who are committed to working towards a more peaceful and just world.
Both projects will combine and join together in Osnabrück halfway through the July project dates.
What will I be doing?
Project 1: Peace of Westphalia: Learn from the past, negotiate for the future
Project date and place: 15 – 28th July in Osnabrück, Germany.
Programme of activities in Brighton: Get to know one another and develop your skills as a team, explore what it means to be a Young Peacemaker, explore non-violence and how to campaign non-violently for change, discover some of Wales’ rich peace heritage and what it means today, prepare for your visit to Germany in July.
Programme of activities in Germany: What brings a war to an end? What characterises peace? How does peace come about and who negotiates it? In our diplomatic simulation game about a current crisis you find yourself in the middle of a realistic scenario. Together with the other members of your group you will simulate peace negotiations. We will ask ourselves whether it is possible to end wars by diplomatic means and indeed whether it is possible to set up a blueprint for lasting peace. If you would like to achieve new insights into the world of international relations and conflict research from an unusual perspective and to train your powers of argumentation, self-assertion and language skills then you are warmly welcome! New encounters and friendships, interesting excursions to towns in the region and intercultural exchange with participants from Wales and across Europe.
Project 2: Build Peace! – Diplomatic simulation game
Project date and place: 15 – 28th July in Münster/Osnabrück, Germany.
Programme of activities in Germany: What does peace mean? How can individuals, states and societies make peace and how is it negotiated? For the first week of our peace project you will live in Münster while we try to trace how the historical achievement of negotiating peace came about. Then we will move on to Osnabrück where we will take part in a peace debate aiming to overcome one of the major conflicts of our time with the young people in the parallel camp. You have the chance to play the role of a peace mediator; you can try out your negotiation skills on the international stage, strengthen your powers of argumentation and of self-assertion, as well as improve your language skills. Within the project, there will also be excursions and recreational activities and encounters with young people from all over Europe and Wales.
