Around 150 pupils from 30 schools attended the Wales Peace Schools Conference on 10th November 2022.
During the Conference participants heard from schools who have developed aspects of global citizenship as part of their involvement in the Peace Schools Scheme. One participant said: “I enjoyed the interactive presentation from Cyfarthfa and want to thank Miss Richards and her students for such a thought provoking session.”
Learners and staff attending the conference were engaged in interactive workshops and learned about projects and resources they can use in their own settings. Schools at the conference committed to many actions, such as building a peace corner in their school, holding peace assemblies and creating a more welcoming environment at the school.
Minister for Social Justice, Jane Hutt, gave the key note speech at the conference and said: ” I’m so inspired by the success of the Peace Schools Scheme and its holistic approach. It places value on the learner’s voice and a greater emphasis on developing skills for our young people.”
The Peace Schools Scheme helps schools to integrate the development of ethical, informed citizenship into the curriculum and school life in a meaningful way. Learners progress in their understanding and skills over time and put learning into action.
