The Sub-Sahara Advisory Panel and Hub Cymru Africa are holding this event to celebrate blackness not just when it’s black history month or in reaction to a tragedy but because black history is 365 days every year. This event is celebrating blackness through films, by Africans about Africans.
The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring three young diaspora individuals speaking on their experiences of blackness as Welsh residents and as black creatives in their respective spaces.
Light refreshments will be served during and after the screening 🍿🍸
Ophelia Dos Santos
I am Ophelia Dos Santos; I am a Welsh textile designer and climate justice activist based in Cardiff. Specialising in hand embroidery – I refresh, repair and repurpose preloved clothing, in attempt to make positive social and environmental change. I express myself by using simple stitches, to create images and patterns on garments and encourage conversation around sustainable fashion, over-consumption and equality.
Hi my name is YP to the World, but also known simply as Pierre, and I am the founder of Steelo Vision, a video and photography production company. When I was 14, I figured I wanted to go down the film route after experimenting with photography. I found it freeing and creative . My ultimate goal is to have my own production company. Initially, I was very hesitant to launch Steelo Vision, as my excuse at the time was to wait until I had the right equipment to start creating content. However, my cousin convinced me to just use the equipment I had, which at the time was just my phone. I then had a logo created and began walking in the stepping-stones towards my dream. I aim to create feature films in the future and look forward to being inspired by the two films which will be shown at the movie screening.
