This open and friendly group meet to discuss and reflect on the impact of racism in the global solidarity sector and support each other to recognise and challenge racism in our work.

This session will focus on Hub Cymru Africa’s Anti-Racism Charter, specifically, how can we meet Charter Point 2:

“We will use our positions to challenge racism where we see it, think critically about the structures we unknowingly uphold and dismantle them.”

To help with this discussion, we will read the BOND report by Lena Bheeroo, Pontso Mafethe and Leila Billing, “Racism, power and truth: Experiences of people of colour in development”.

If you intend to come, it would be helpful (though not essential) if you can read the following sections in advance:

  • Executive Summary (pages 3 to 5)
  • Recommendations: Systems – pages 53 and 54)

We recognise that not all these recommendations are relevant to an organisation of the size of most within the global solidarity sector in Wales but we ask that you please see which would be applicable to your organisation either directly or indirectly.
