‘Gwilym’s Diary’ – Postcards from a 1925 Peace Mission (feature article with archive links)
“We appeal to you at this turning point in the world’s history.
With you we believe that… international policies should secure equal rights for all races,
With you we believe in a warless world,
and with you we would dedicate ourselves to its achievement .”
Between the 10th and 12th of December, 1925, the church leaders of America met in Detroit for their annual Congress. On the programme for the day on the 10th was a presentation by Gwilym Davies, who had travelled from Wales to present ‘A Memorial from leaders of religious bodies in Wales to the federal council of the churches of Christ in America’. The memorial included the signatures of 22 leaders of Christian denominations, representing thousands of Welsh Christians, and asked the American Council to support the aims of the League of Nations as a means of ensuring global peace.
